We have some tips and tricks to achieve the best family portraits that will last a lifetime. Whether it is Christmas portraits, celebrating a milestone, an engagement session or just updating your family portraits, it is important to have harmonious styling that will complement your family and photograph well.
Here are a couple of main things to keep in mind:
The level of formality is very important. We suggest coming to a consensus of how formal or casual you want your portraits to be. If you are doing an outdoor session in the middle of summer, you may want to be a little more casual. Whereas, if you are doing an indoor session that is more classic, you might want to lean into a more formal theme.
Being cohesive is very important as well. You don’t want to have one family member dressed in a suit and tie and another in jeans and a t-shirt. Try to stick with one level of formality and not waver.
We love showing off your family’s personality. If you have a certain team you love, or a color palette you are into, go for it! We only ask that you keep patterns and silhouettes subtle and classic. If you love a certain motif that's great, just add hints of it throughout your outfits.
We have curated some inspirational outfits that are suitable for all levels of formality, color palettes and seasons. We suggest staying with one color palette and color theme. This makes the look more cohesive and easier for us to plan your session and eventually pose you. It also just looks so nice in the end! Make sure you are dressing head to toe. We wouldn't want your shoes not to match the rest of your outfit. Feel free to play with accessories and have fun with styling! Finally, it is never a bad idea to stick with classics so, simple silhouettes, styles, colors and patterns are a greenlight.
