The summer months are among the busiest times for photographing sports leagues here at Visualizations, and August has a lot of leagues in store for us!
This week on Monday, we traveled to Hudson High School to photograph Hudson Hawks Youth Football and Cheer, and photographed Cuyahoga Falls Youth Cheer on Thursday. Wrapping up the week on Friday, we photographed the Cuyahoga Falls High School Marching Band at CFHS. While the CFHS marching band isn’t a sports league, we photograph it like one because of how big the band is. Looking forward at the rest of the month, we will be photographing Walsh Jesuit’s fall sports seniors to make their senior banners, Stow Youth Football and Cheer, Hudson Hawks Flag Football, Cuyahoga Falls Youth Football, Stow Soccer Club, and Seton Catholic School’s fall sports pictures. To wrap up photographing fall sports leagues, we will be photographing Immaculate Heart of Mary fall sports pictures, Firelands United Soccer Club, and Cuyahoga Falls Soccer Club in early September.
Due to the size alone of sports leagues, photographing them takes a lot of planning ahead of time. After being contacted by the league director, we stay in contact with them in the weeks prior to picture day. We make sure to get the number of teams and how many kids are on each team, where we will be setting up to photograph, and times that we will be working with. We then hand count envelopes to be handed out prior to picture day and work with the league director to create a schedule that will work around practice or game times. During the weeks following picture day, all of the items ordered are delivered and handed out by the coach or league director at a game or practice.
On picture day, we have a small army of people working to help ensure everything runs smooth. Typically, we have one or two people working at the table to answer questions parents may have about our items, packages, and anything else they may have questions about. At this table, we have samples of items that can be ordered either in a package or a la carte. We have typically have two or three cameras running, each with three people working on them: a photographer, a poser, and someone collecting envelopes. If a player forgets their envelope, we write down their name and photograph them just like everybody else as a courtesy. You can then contact us to order images of your player. We sometimes have an extra person around to make sure that everything is in order and to help organize teams. Over the years, we have developed a system for photographing big sports leagues to ensure that everyone is accounted for and to make sure picture day is as easy as possible for parents, coaches, and players.
